The UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE) is one of India’s most prestigious and competitive exams, conducted annually by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). It serves as a gateway to various civil services, including the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and other central government services.
The CSE is a three-stage process: Preliminary Exam (Prelims), Main Exam (Mains), and an Interview (Personality Test). The Prelims consist of two objective-type papers that test general knowledge and aptitude. The Mains include nine descriptive papers covering a wide range of subjects, from essay writing to optional subjects chosen by the candidate. Candidates who clear the Mains are called for an interview, which assesses their personality, leadership skills, and suitability for public service.
The exam is known for its rigorous preparation demands, often requiring candidates to dedicate a year or more to study. Success in the CSE opens doors to key administrative positions in India, enabling individuals to contribute to national development and governance. It attracts thousands of aspirants every year, with only a few making it through the final selection.
