The SSC Stenographer (Grade ‘C’ & ‘D’) Examination is a competitive test conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) for recruiting stenographers in various government departments and ministries. The exam comprises two stages: a Computer-Based Examination (CBE) and a Skill Test in Stenography. The CBE includes three sections—General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness, and English Language & Comprehension. The exam tests candidates’ logical reasoning, general knowledge, and proficiency in English.
Candidates who qualify the CBE will proceed to the Skill Test in Stenography. The skill test involves transcription of a dictated passage at different speeds depending on the grade applied for—100 w.p.m. for Grade ‘C’ and 80 w.p.m. for Grade ‘D’. The transcription needs to be completed within specified time limits in either English or Hindi. Visually impaired candidates with 40% and above disability are exempted from questions involving maps, graphs, and diagrams in the General Intelligence & Reasoning and General Awareness sections. The final selection is based on the candidate’s performance in both the CBE and Skill Test, with qualifying marks set by the Commission for each stage.
