The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is a pivotal examination in India for admission into prestigious engineering institutions. Established by the Ministry of Education, it is conducted in two stages: JEE Main and JEE Advanced. JEE Main, formerly known as the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE), serves as a screening test for admissions to National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and other centrally funded technical institutions. It was introduced in 2002 to streamline the engineering entrance process.
JEE Advanced is the second stage, which was formerly the IIT-Joint Entrance Examination (IIT-JEE). It is specifically designed for admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). The IIT-JEE was established in 1961 as a national-level examination to provide a common entry point for IITs. In 2013, the JEE system was restructured to include JEE Main and JEE Advanced, aiming to unify and simplify the admission process across engineering colleges in India.
JEE is renowned for its rigor and is one of the most competitive examinations in the country, with millions of students participating annually to secure a place in top engineering institutions.
