Introduction to the eShram Portal
The Ministry of Labour & Employment (MoLE) has recently celebrated a significant milestone with the eShram portal, which has successfully registered over 30 crore unorganised workers since its inception three years ago. This achievement marks a substantial step forward in establishing a digital support system for unorganised workers in India.
Objective of the eShram Portal
The eShram portal is designed as a comprehensive “One-Stop-Solution” for unorganised workers. It centralizes access to various social security schemes, simplifying the process for workers to receive the benefits they are entitled to.
Government’s Future Plans
In the 2024-25 Budget speech, the government outlined plans to enhance the eShram portal by integrating it with other online platforms. This improvement aims to further solidify the portal’s role as a central resource for unorganised workers.
Connecting Social Security Schemes
The Ministry of Labour & Employment is working to link key social security schemes with the eShram portal. The schemes include:
- Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY): A life insurance scheme.
- Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY): An accident insurance scheme.
- Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY): A health insurance scheme.
- Pradhan Mantri Street Vendors Atmanirbhar Nidhi (PM-SVANidhi): Financial support for street vendors.
- Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA): Employment guarantee in rural areas.
- Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin (PMAY-G): Housing scheme for rural areas.
- Ration Card Scheme: Provides subsidized food grains to eligible families.
Benefits for Unorganised Workers
Integrating these schemes with the eShram portal will streamline access to vital services and benefits for unorganised workers. This integration aims to ensure that workers can more effectively secure their rights and improve their well-being, offering them enhanced access to essential resources and support.
